Why Ford Mustang specifically in Tenerife?

Tenerife is one of the few islands in Europe where the Mustang truly comes alive. Three reasons:

  • The roads. TF-1 is a modern motorway with ocean views, perfect for cruising. TF-21 — 50 km of serpentines on the slopes of Mount Teide with sharp climbs and descents where the V8 shows its character. TF-454 along the cliffs of Los Gigantes — the best coastal road in the Canaries.
  • The weather. 340 sunny days a year. You can drive a convertible with the top down in January just as easily as in July. Average winter temperature +22°C, summer +27°C.
  • The atmosphere. Tenerife is alive year-round: tourists, coastal restaurants, Las Americas nightlife. The Mustang fits all of it. You won't feel out of place pulling up to Hard Rock Hotel, Siam Park or Costa Adeje.

Our 4 Mustang models: which one to pick?

1. Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost Cabrio — the economical option

4-cylinder turbo engine, 314 hp, fuel consumption 9-10 L/100 km. Perfect if you want the Mustang look and style without refuelling every other day. Ideal for long rentals (5-14 days) and relaxed touring. Automatic, leather, climate control, navigation. The most affordable model — from €150/day.

2. Mustang 5.0 GT V8 Cabrio — the real American muscle

5-litre V8 with 450 hp, 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. This is the car most people rent a Mustang for. Unmistakable roaring soundtrack, classic American character. Fuel consumption 13-15 L/100 km — the thrill has a price. Best choice for the Teide route with the top down.

3. Mustang Cabrio Classic — retro style

For those who value vintage aesthetics. Classic design in the spirit of the 60s-70s. Looks especially striking in photoshoots — against the black lava fields of Teide or the white houses of Garachico. Perfect for couples on a romantic trip.

4. Mustang 5.0 GT V8 Coupe — closed roof version

The same V8 with 450 hp but with a hard roof. Better aerodynamics, slightly faster on the motorway, quieter at highway speeds. Choose this if you're planning long Santa Cruz ↔ Las Americas drives or will often leave the car in parking lots (closed roof is safer).

TOP-3 Mustang routes in Tenerife

Route 1. Teide V8 symphony (8 hours, ~150 km)

Start in Costa Adeje → TF-28 through Vilaflor (Spain's highest village, 1400 m) → TF-21 to Teide National Park → lunch at Las Cañadas → return via La Esperanza. On the descent, drop the top — the V8 sounds especially dramatic among the lava rocks. Best model for this route: Mustang 5.0 GT V8 Cabrio.

Route 2. Coastal cruise on TF-1 (4 hours, ~80 km)

Start in Las Americas → TF-1 south to Médano → turn around → TF-1 north to El Sauzal → lunch in La Laguna. This is about relaxed cruising — open road, ocean on one side, mountains on the other. Music in the stereo, hand on the wheel, no rush. Ideal for the Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost Cabrio.

Route 3. Masca and Garachico (5 hours)

Start in Costa Adeje → TF-454 through Los Gigantes → climb to Masca (one of the most scenic gorges in the Canaries) → descend to Garachico (old colonial architecture). Narrow turns, 600 m cliffs above the ocean. In a Mustang Cabrio Classic with the top down, this is the material for the best Instagram photos of your life.

When is the best time to rent a Mustang?

Tenerife is great year-round, but there are nuances for the Mustang:

  • November-March: +20...+24°C — ideal for top-down driving during the day. Fewer tourists, lower prices, emptier roads.
  • April-June: hot but without August's stickiness. Prime time for the Teide route.
  • July-August: high season, prices up, the Teide road jammed in the morning. Book your Mustang 2-3 weeks ahead.
  • September-October: "Spanish Indian summer". Warm ocean, crowds leaving. Best time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a Mustang for a week?

Depends on the model. Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost Cabrio for 7 days — from €1050 (~€150/day). Mustang 5.0 GT V8 Cabrio — from €1500 (~€215/day). Prices include full no-excess insurance, unlimited mileage and airport delivery.

Can I drive a Mustang up to Teide National Park?

Yes, the TF-21 road to Teide is open to all cars. However, at 2100 m the temperature drops to +5...+10°C even in summer — better to close the top on the climb. In winter, if it snows (rare), the road may be temporarily closed.

Is the V8 loud? Can I drive at night?

The Mustang 5.0 GT V8 is genuinely loud — that's part of its character. In residential areas after 22:00 we recommend switching to Quiet Mode (in the settings) to avoid attracting police attention. On the TF-1 motorway there are no restrictions.

Can I rent a Mustang if I'm 23-24 years old?

Unfortunately, no. For all Mustang models (as a Luxury category) the minimum age is 25 with at least 3 years of driving experience. This is an insurance requirement.

Which Mustang to pick for a couple — Cabrio or Coupe?

If your plans include beaches, romantic sunsets and photoshoots — Cabrio. If your main experience will be full-day island drives (Santa Cruz, Anaga) — Coupe is more comfortable (quieter, less wind, better A/C).
